So I own a Canon EOS Elan II, and every where I go people pronounce it different. So how is the “EOS Elan II” really pronounced?
The Camera store I bought it from in the 90’s pronounced it…
E.O.S. Ellen 2
The last nature photography workshop I attended pronounced it…
Eos (like Boss without the “B”) Élan 2
And the last time I was forced to pronounce it, it was a combination of the two…
E.O.S. Élan 2?
Followed by a reassuring…
Err…uh…huh.
any thoughts?

Except in the southern US, where Elan becomes Eee (as in the letter "E") Lan (as in LAN, the abbreviation for local area network).
You should hear how we pronounce "Milan", "LaFayette", and "Madrid".

Ha, I don't have to worry about how to pronounce "Elan", because those cameras have different names over here...... :)
Elan 7 = EOS 33
Elan 7E = EOS 30
Elan 7N = EOS 33v
Elan 7NE = EOS 30v

Move to Australia/NZ/Europe where they use meaningful names such as EOS30, not Elan7E, then you only need to worry about pronunciation of EOS!
i.e:
Elan = EOS100
Elan II = EOS50
Elan 7e = EOS30
Rebel = EOS500
Rebel G = EOS500n
Rebel 2000 = EOS300
Rebel Ti = EOS300V
Rebel G II = EOS3000N
Digital Rebel = 300D
Well at least they are not like Japan, where they call then EOS Kiss!

Opps, that is what happens when someone grabs you for a 'couple of minutes' whilst in the middle of a post, they beat you too the puch line!

That's how I've been pronouncing it all these years but I just looked up the word in the dictionary and it looks like it's a French derived word with a French pronunciation as was mentioned above by a couple of people. Well, I'll be..... :confused:

I pronounce my Elan IIe.....E-lane....I once to pondered how to call it and then figured forget it no one knows for sure. Even if I knew the correct way im pretty sure no one else would notice the difference if I say it wrong and hell it's my camera I can call it Canon Joe for all I care.

Anyway, I pronounce Elan like ee-lon. And EOS, like ee-oh-s.

That's quite interesting, because I used to call my'self' little Joe, and I never got any 'clients'. :lol:
And you guys are ALL wrong. EOS isn't a word or an acronym. It's a way of life. :D
