When using the 20D, Is there a huge difference between the Canon 18-55mm & the 18-55mm “USM”?

USM stands for Ultra Sonic Motor whcih is Canon very fast very quiet (read SILENT) focus method.

IT is on the order of 5 to 10 times faster tahn a standard focus motor... (really)

Therefore,.. personally,. I will not buy a lens that does not have it.
