ACR and Photoshop

When I open a RAW file in ACR and then click "open image" to export it to PS, it comes in as 8 bit and not 16. That can't be right ?

In the ACR window, look in the lower center and you will see a blue line that looks like a URL. Click the line and it will open up the Workflow Options dialog box and you can change the exported bit depth from 8-bit to 16-bit.
