Problem 1
I am trying to use my Canon ML 3 Ring Light with my D 60. but it will not flash. Any suggestions?

Problem 2 When I am shooting the built in flash in the TV mode, the f stop depends on how dark the room is and usually shoots wide open which causes the picture to be overexposed, even though the flash icon appears. In the AV mode, the shutter speed is automatically set to the available light and hence the subject may be blurred depending on the light.

The only solution I have found is to shoot flash in the manual mode. That does not seem right for a $2500 camera.

Is there something I don't know, or is this a soft, firm, or hardward problem?

I too find the operation of flash photography in the D60's Tv and Av modes inconvenient. I wish that there was a setting ti include the flash in metering in these modes.

At least in Av mode, Custom Function 6 can be used to fix the shutter speed to 1/200 sec.

Your suggestion solved the Av mode problem and the Tv mode is supposed to work that way according to the directions.

Now, if I could just get the ML3 ring flash to work. Another discussion group said that the ML 3 works with the D30 but no one knew about the D60 and the ML 3.

When you use Av or Tv, the EOS 5xx flashes use fill flash. If you shoot with Av or Tv in a low-light situation, you need to use a tripod, and you should expect a slow shutter speed.

When you use P or Night mode, the EOS 5xx flashes assume the flash is the entire lumination. You'll get a much higher shutter speed. Of course, in low light, the background will be very dark or black.

If you want full control, you can use M. You can set the shutter speed and the aperture and then rely on E-TTL to control the flash output.

Cheers,
