Gary's '68 Chevelle SS 454 motor was built by Motor City Muscle & is now 469cid putting out 650bhp. It has 14:1 compression ($7 gas!), Isky cam, etc, etc. Transmission is Coan shifted auto with 3800 stall converter pushing a DTS 4.56 rear end.
There's a fuel cell & battery in the trunk & it's been lightened considerably; aluminum drive shaft, glass bumpers, no wipers, radio, heater...
He's had it four months & it's a daily driver in the summertime.

Wow, now that is nice. Great shots Frank. Are you actually allowed to drive on the streets there with the wheelie bar?

nice car, I would get rid of the sidepipes though and either dump them before the axle or run out the back.

Are you actually allowed to drive on the streets there with the wheelie bar? Yes. A lot of cars have them. so whats it run in the 1/4 mile? No idea yet. He's taking his time breaking it in.
Thanks for the comments.

Well done Frank as always, do you have a close up the shifter by chance?
Thanks,

Nice, I'm not really into the muscle cars but, a friend had a SS396(built) 4 speed when we were in school. He let me drive it a couple times and that I will never forget. It had so much power it was scary could only imagine what this one would be like.

I'd imagine it's faster than that lol...
Nice pro-street car. At least it looks like it falls within that bracket.

close up the shifter Sorry, no. It had so much power it was scary It's all relative. The first time I stepped on my 'Cuda, I was amazed. (Maybe it was the trees going by on Woodward.) Later it was just FUN! :D I'd imagine it's faster than that lol... I don't know what it weighs, but with those tires, I'd give it high 11s. But that's what made racing "back when"? ;)

Not to cause an arguement in a photo forum, but a wheelie bar means jack crap about how fast a car can run especially one thats never been on a track before. They are on this car for "show" in my opinion.
But back to the photos. #7 would be best with a different back ground.

They are on this car for "show" in my opinion. Well, no. I ran into Gary tonight & it was extensively raced before he bought it. He said he'll try to contact the first owner to get times.
Here's a shot of the trunk:

well judging by the setup of the car im gonna say it needs it, most cars dont run around on wheelie bars unless it needs

most cars dont run around on wheelie bars unless it needs You'd be surprised the cars I've seen with them & the driver can't give me a 1/4 mile time? You'd think that they'd at least find a marked road out in the country & use a stopwatch, but noooooo!

well here in our area, if a car needs one its got one. If it doesnt need it then fine, there are cars in the deep 8s without them here.

well here in our area, if a car needs one its got one. Too many wannabe's here. Some are building the car they'd wished they had back when. Doesn't mean that they have a clue how to drive them?
At least they're keeping a car alive for someone else to buy later & they haven't been "Rode hard & put away wet!" :D

I'm confused.... Losing the wipers ( what the ...... in the rain???) but you have a huge hovercraft propellor inside the car.....
Backwards logic.... :)
Sweet ride though for sure.

High 10s maybe. You can put wheelie bars on anything-it doesn't make it any faster. Nice pics, and a nice ride too.

Losing the wipers Wipers, linkage, & motor = weight. A lot of these guys say that RainX on the windshield works good enough unless it pours.
We raced in the rain on a road course without wipers. I wondered what the guys in the back were "seeing"? :D

I put RainX on my '72 Pontiac and I haven't used the wipers since.

I'm faster than the birds!;)

Wipers, linkage, & motor = weight. More on that: I read in R&T today that a 100# reduction in weight = 0.1 sec less elapsed time. That would figure out to about 17' for a 120mph car.
When I raced sports cars, I never filled the fuel cell for sprint races. Every little bit helps. ;)
