Hi everybody,

I have a big problem with a 128Mo CF memory card!
My CF is full (wonderful pictures from french polynesia)
But I can not transfer them on my pc, worth i can not view them anymore on my camera!

My camera displays this "CF memory card is full", "corrupt data on CF memory card", "no pictures"

If i go on proprieties, i can see my CF is still full (cf free 400ko, FULL 122Mo)

What can i do, i really don't want to lose my pictures!

Please I need your help!

I have a similar (perhaps) problem... went on a holiday with my brand new S40, and a brand new Crucial 128mb CF card... took 60 pictures and everything was great -- then all of a sudden i get CF MEMORY CARD ERROR, and i can't take any new pictures, neither download any of the pictures i already took to my computer. And i cannot view the pictures in the camera anymore either!!!

Any idea as to why this happened?! What can i do to keep it from happening?! Do i have to reformat the CF card, or is there any other way to rescue the pics?>!?

Thanks
Magnus

PS.
I did format the card after i got it, before i started shooting, so it's not that problem...

Hi,

I have no idea, or maybe one, "corrupt data" appear just after i rotated pictures with my camera!!

I read on the forum we could recover pictures from corrupt memory card with photorescue software (available at www.photorescue.com) and an usb cf card reader!!
Dixit canon support!

I hope it will be ok!

I am looking to get a reader and the full version of photorescue (the free one doesn't allow you to save recovered pictures)

If it works tell me

Im just wondering if the persons who had this problem (except for me) can actually see any files in their camera? I have taken 60+ pics, but cannot see anything on the camera, or when i mount the camera in my computer... but when i check properties i see that only 30meg out of 128meg is free on the card...

Also, the photorescue software only seems to work if you mount the CF card as a logical drive (with a drive letter)... the normal Canon software does not allow for this, does anyone know of any other software that might?! Would spare me the cost of a CF card reader...

Thanks!

Hey Everybody,

I got a CF card reader that could be mounted as a logical drive, and downloaded the "old" version (free) of digital image recovery... Got about 55 of my 65 pictures back in perfect shape, and another 5 mildly distorted...

Worked wonders! Now im returning the CF card reader to Radio Schack :))

Hi,

CF CARD READER + SCANDISK works very well!!!!

I just got an usb cf card reader, did a scandisk (errors repaired automatically) and i got my pictures back!!!
Working with a "logical drive" is very easy, you access your card easily!!

nb: after scandisk, i could see my pictures with the cf card redaer but not with my camera; so i save my pictures first and format my card!

Now everything is fine!

Thanks everybody for your help!

Nico,

I suggest you try the scandisk option first. Get an USB card reader and you can see the card as a logical disk from your PC. Then use scandisk and your PC will repair the files if at all possible.

Nico,

Try this link http://www.lc-tech.com/photorecovery.htm.

I haven't got any problems myself (yet), but you can try the shareware version first (it will show you the thumbnails but you can't save the pictures) and when it that version works you can decide to buy it.

Good Luck!

Hi, everybody here,

I am a Chinese. I had CF card error with my DC and what happened was that I can not take any pictures, there was "No Image" sign on the camera, and when I view camera properties with my computer, it shows the space taken were ZERO but actually that should be nearly full.

Anyone can help me get back my pictures?

Thanks

Wendy

I had the same problem with my A70. At first I thought it was the compact flash card but then I tried with 3 other cards. They all gave me the "No Image", "CF Card Error", "E51", "Imcompatiable JPEG Format", etc. I called Canon and they were nice to offer to fix it since I have the warrenty. They also told me they've never heard of the problem. After further testing I concluded that the problem was the camera.

They only way I downloaded the files were thru either a reader or a pcmcia cf card adapter. I saw some of my pics distorted. Meaning that the pic were either cut into 2 frame and swapped around or part of the pic had a blue haze.

I really like the camera still and am planning to get another. I think I just had bad luck and got a lemon.

BTW...how come some people starts their reply with "I am "certain ethinicty"?

This is a free program that might do the job: http://woundedmoon.org/win32/driverescue19d.html

Hi, Peter,

Thanks for the help. The Drive Rescue program you recommended did not work properly. I had tried every function of it, but failed to let the program find the new drive source (digital camera) connected with my computer. Do you know any further details about this program? It seems more useful comparing with some other recovery tools.

Regards.

Wendy

Wendy,

DriveRescue is not intended to communicate with your camera, but when you use a Card Reader for your CF-Card it can help in salvaging damaged picture files.

Peter

Hmm.. I've a similar situation with photo's from an s40, transferred to a mac (osX) using the canon cable. Thumbnails appeared ok in camera, and are fine in the os (not using canon software) - but most of the photo's are damaged. Photoshop opens the files, but they are damaged.

Any clue or suggestions?

Thank you in advance,
David

HAPPY HAPPY!!

Tried the free PhotoRescue demo to see what it would say. Looked promising and felt that spending 29$ for PhotoRescue was worth risking to return damaged images.

OSX version worked great. I found and old SanDisk card reader in the drawer (been there since 1megapix Epson was retired a few years back) - and ran the thing! Found other files which never made it during transfer.

It seems that files are damaged sometimes during trx to the machine. I don't know why or under what circumstances. I thought the issue was with the camera or the memory which I went through a number of models settling on the SanDisk256 ultra.

Thanks for your posts.

hi friends
I have been using the canon powershot A60 since last 10 months. Today I got the message "memory card error" and not able to take any new shot or download the pics already on the card. I am not able to format the card using either the camera or PC (windows xp OS). card did not come in contact with any strong magnetic fields or physically damaged.
kindly give a soution as I am not sure whether the new card is going to work or not and finances are not enough for getting a separate card reader
thanks
