I am new to the forum but already the people here have helped a great deal, Thank you. Now since I've be pointed in the right direction as far as lens choices go, I think I'm going to stick with Canon equipment( no disrespect to other makes) Are there any Canon lenses that will NOT work with my D30? I have a list of lenses for outdoor/indoor sports and railroad shooting. I just thought it would be easier to find out if any can be crossed of my wish list. Thanks again.

Canon currently makes two types of lenses,..
What you want is to make sure that the lenses you are looking at (well over 50) say "EF" on them.
The other lenses are nearly identical but carry the "EFS" mount. EFS will only mount to 300D and 20D (these cameras will also take all of the EF lenses)
There are only a small number of EFS lenses currently (three?)
If your looking at used lenses,. there are older lenses no longer made that also will not fit.. these are "FD" or older....
In any case,. if it says "EF" you are all set ;)

Very small point, but it is actually four - there is a USM as well as a non-USM EF-S 18-55.

Remember that because of the small sensor size in the D30 compared to film you have to deal with an effective 1.6 crop factor. This is great on the long end (your 75-300 just became a 120-480) but sucks on the wide end as it makes getting a decent wide angle much harder to achieve (your 28-105 just became a 45-170). Of course this isn't unique to the D30, basically any DSLR the good side of $3000 has the same limitation.
