View Full Version : Which Top Loader?

I need to buy one for my gripped 40D and be able to have a 70-200 f2.8 IS + 1.4X tele at the worst case scenario. I'm guessing, most of the time it will either be attached to a 17-55 f2.8 IS or 50 f1.2 (or both in the bag )

I e-looked at the Think Tank Digital Holster 40/50 (50 looked like an overkill), the Lowepro Top Loader 75AW, and the Tamrac Pro Digital Zoom 10 (5630).

Anyone here owns any of the above bags? Thoughts? Pros and Cons? Any other top loading options?

TIA :)

My preference is the Thinktank holster over the 75AW since the 75AW is collecting dust in my closet. The 75AW is bulky. Thinktank has a nice snug fit.

I have both ThinkTank and Lowepro. TT vs Lowepro TL series: TT is smaller, lower profile. It fits the camera+lens very snugged. It also has, IMHO, the best belt attachement system. It, however, offers less protection (software construction especially the extension part). Handle is also useless. Lowepro is more bulky, more pocket for a few other things, tougher construction, bigger/easier to use top lid. Also, it has loop for attaching things on the bag.

Overall, I think Lowepro has better execution if you don't mind a little more bulky and you don't plan to attach it to a belt. If you want something that fit the camera+lens only, as small as possible, then TT is better.

Excellent summary thanks! Since I may be hauling a 70-200 f2.8 IS + 1.4x, I don't think I can complain much about bulkiness. While carrying something with a sung fit is nice, I'm sure sooner or later I'll start cussing out for not having extra pockets for various stuff I'll find myself carrying. A wallet? A cell phone? Keys? - Hey, this thing can be a murse too! :D

Would like to sell it to me? :)

I think that Kata H-14 might be ok too. That's the one in my wishlist at the moment.

Check out this thread about it:

I prefer the Toploader 75AW if that's the only bag I'm taking out to an event or something, as it has more room for extra stuff. The outer pocket will actually take a 580EX flash just fine, in fact. For hiking, where I'm traveling as light as possible, I prefer the Thinktank Digital Holster on a belt. The Digital Holster is quite compact.

+1 for Think Tank. I find the LP and the others too bulky. Also, the telescoping snout is the only way to go - an excellent feature.

Most holsters are way too padded - over padded and that makes them bulky.

Also, TT's construction is top end and very durable. No one is better.
