Opteka RC-4 remote not working on 350d

I bought an Opteka RC-4 a few weeks back and just now got around to trying it out, but I cant get it to work. None of the buttons do anything at all. Is there anything in the camera I need to set in order to use an iR remote? Or is the battery just dead?

Make sure you are set on self timer.
