I had a stigmatism (sp) and just got glasses for the first time in my life. It feels like I have been watching something on a rabit ears B&W tv set and then KABOWAMO someone threw me into some 3d/imax/HDTV/ crazy world
Anyone else haev this experience the first time they got glasses?

ROFLOL!
I got mine when I was 16, some years ago now, but I do remember the very sudden change the world took on.
Wait till you get contacts though, and then fall asleep with them in (usualy while drunk).
Its quite a wonderful feeling to wake up and be able to see again, you get about a minute to think about what could have possible happened to give you back correct vision before the itching kicks in and you realise you've just left your lens in.

Hey. I have glasses, yeah... I recall the feeling. However, I'm not so good with contacts. I have sensitive eyes, so I only wear contacts when I'm trying to impress the ladies :D

I go through that at least once a day.
Wake up.
Sit on side of bed for a minute.
Stand up.
Stretch.
Scratch.
Fumble for glasses somewhere on nightstand.
Hello world!!
I'm one of those people who can't see diddly squat without his glasses.

Just wait till you get your next pair of glasses. You will spend the first day slowly moving your head back and forth, marveling at how the universe shifts to the left and right differently than before.

Yeah, it's amazing we can see at all when you think about it. Take photography, for example. Have you ever considered what that image goes through to get to your brain? Here is my list, but I'm sure I've missed a thing or two:
1. Light color and intensity to begin with;
2. Reflective surface of the objects;
3. Atmosphere;
4. Lens filter;
5. Lens;
6. Sensor or film;
7. Digital or Chemical processing;
8. Printing or digital formating;
9. Display medium;
10. Ambient viewing light;
11. YOUR GLASSES;
12. Your eyesight.
No wonder I'm always arguing with my wife about whether her sweater is orange or pink! :lol:

I'm w/ belmondo, can't see anything w/o glasses/contacts. That said, I have been wearing them for 17 years and well every time I get a new prescription that changes drastically I am stepping for a floor that is about waist level. It is a really weird sensation, but that too goes away in a day or 2. Other than that, I just deal w/ it. It isn't a big deal after you get used to them.

Me too ! I've got mine about 22 years ago, so I don't quite remember the feeling ...

I got mine 20 years ago. Bumbed me out. Everything became so crisp. I liked the "soft focus" my eyes gave the world. Too bad I kept crashing into things...

Almost my whole family has glasses: my father has had them for a long time, my brother since he was 10, my mother since a few years, and many of my aunts, uncles etc.
Fortunately I don't, I must have inherited my grandfather's eyes - he had very good eyes and only needed glasses for reading when he got really old.

I've been wearing glasses more than 50 years now -- the more part's my secret . And yes I still remember the feeling even though we didn't have 3d/imax/HDTV/ and maybe the world wasn't as crazy as we thought it was then. IMHO glasses are wonderful -- without mine I have to squint to see the big E. Welcome aboard!

I feel your pain! Yes, I've been wearing them for 30+ years myself.

Not to mention that fact that the eyes also see the world UPSIDE-DOWN! :shock: Just like Belmondo's avatar. :mrgreen: :lol:
Good thing the brain knows better and reinverts it for us. :D

35 years... 620/20 vision without them... If I had 3 wishes "perfect eyesight" would be one of them.

Got mine later in life, stigmatism as well.
Things just became clearer, but same old thing.
Prefer contacts now, less fuss (maybe?)

ok now the problem is this.
My monitor and all the windows look like this... will my eyes adjust to this?

No, instead of the eyes adjusting to it, I think you're supposed to adjust the glasses so that it doesn't look like that. Otherwise, you're going to end up with a mighty big headache.

BTW, anybody out there that's already but their eye(s) under the laser to correct vision? Just curious. I'm too chicken to try something like that. :shock:

4 or 5 people in work did it a couple years ago. It worked out well for all of them.
For me, with 620/20 vision, I'm afraid of tossing down $5,000 only to get 30/20 vision and *still* need glasses. I would consider that a complete failure and waste of $5,000. Otherwise I'd do it.
Though I'd definitely do it if the $5,000 were completely expendable.

What bugs me is when there is a beautiful girl I can't see clear, but when there is an "ok" girl my sight is perfect :evil:

Wait til you get to golden age when you get to add the "heartbreak of presbyopia" to your already failing vision! Then you get to stand in line for your "cheaters!" Mark

Need glasses just for reading and seeing the setting on the MKII. A royal pain in the butt. However I can see a deer in the next county, laying down under a tree, in a valley, behind a barn.:):):):)
BTW I just got me new reading glasses about 6 weeks ago and ordered them with the Nikon Ice coating. Was supposed to keep them cleaner longer. Damn, this coating really works. Usually I'll clean the finger prints and smudgies off them 2 or 3 times a day. I think I've cleaned the new ones maybe twice in 6 weeks. Good stuff.

I have glasses and contacts. Don't see anything without glasses. Everything's very blurry without them. I mainly wear the contacts for special occasions (parties and such). They're great when swimming though as it's kinda nice to see who you've swum into.
