This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.
Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.
The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.
The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.
You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.
Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.
If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before and After #90".
This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
This game will end on Friday, August 1st at 11:59 pm (Eastern).
This image was taken at the SPCA where I work. I'm sure something creative can be done with it.

boy, this one had so many layers, saves and re-do's...I hope I can remember what I did
First I made a duplicate image and on one image used the Alien Skin rip open filter.
On the second imagine I cloned out the bars. (took a loooong time too)
Then I pasted the first image over the second and flattened it.
Then I processed it...lightened the center (to make it look like the jail spotlite was on her), desaturated and added grain.
Then I used comic life to make a balloon thought and saved it and pasted it to this photo.
Then I added a frame and text and flattened.

Cat portrait.
Got rid of the fence and its shadow with the clone tool and the healing brush.
Cropped to square.
Covered over the background with a complimentary color. I knew I was going to add a texture, so I didn't worry too much about all the fur and just did a quick job of it.
Brightened a little bit.
Added a canvas texture.
Added the border.

Permagrin - I really like that. I'm going to have to look into that filter. Awesome effect.
dilorenzo1954 - You like your artistic styles! Very unique, semi-creepy take ;)
kab8715 - I like selective coloring too. I actually had to go back and look at the original - That's a pink nose!
suzyb - The style is nice here. For this one I think I'd like to see the right (her left) eye fixed. Maybe by mirroring the other.
BitterSweet - I'm not sure how much that looks like a newspaper (good read, though!), but.. I like the end edit on the picture itself. I'm going to give this one to you.
The cat was adopted, many months ago, so no need to worry about it being sad. I've milked them for all they're worth though when I take the pictures to put in the newspaper. A little guilt goes a long way.

Suzy - I loved yours! the texture worked really well on that :) I can't imagine how long it took you to clone the fence off the cat - I had originally tried that and couldn't get anything that looked natural.
I like to use selective coloring every once in awhile - but it really has to fit the picture I think. There are some people that take it overboard. I actually started out just doing the eyes and then it hit me to do the nose too and I think thats what made it complete and the selective color work on this one.

"... Who will be the new Miss Petco ..." --- Tracey, you crack me up !!! That was WAYYYY too funny.
Nice job. Congrats all around. That was a tough one with the chain link fence. I didn't have any creative ideas, so I started to clone the fence away. ... I gave up after about 10-minutes of futility .

wow thanks SonofDarwin. I saw how everyone else was able to clone out the fence (which like Silver I gave up after about 30 mins) Great job on everyone who was able to do that.
I will put the next one up tomorrow morning because I need to go through my images to see what one to put up. I will add a message when it's up.
Thanks again.

Oh yeah sadly it doesn't look like a newspaper but I couldn't find a good layout of one so I made a simple one :)
