Hi
I dropped my S45 this morning  and the LCD screen seems to be toast. I have heard of this happening with others that have dropped it. Could you give me any idea of how much to fix.
I get nothing on the screen in any mode, however I can see the image in the LCD VERY faintly if I shine a very bright light on the back at the LCD screen. If I look at the bright light through the lens I can see nothing on the LCD.
Camera seems to be working fine still however.
I know people have had the screen replaced by Canon for reasonable amounts; others for ridiculous amounts! Could anyone help as to where in Canada I could get this done, as I love the camera! Hopefully it's not too expensive.
I just bought a new G6 :D , awaiting delivery, but would like the S45 up and running again, as it's great for the backpacking etc... trips
Any ideas as to what is wrong?
Thanks

There are several threads in the small camera forum talking about this. You can use the search function to find them.

This one here seems to have the most about what you are looking for.

good luck on getting the S45 up and running (or if it is totally dead you can always get a new "A" series http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif )

Many thanks for your comments and welcome! i have been using the Canon for a couple of years now, and didn't find this forum until now. I plan to stick around!
I had a look through some of the other posts, but hadn't found the one you suggested, and it looks good. Thanks
Hopefully I can get it back up and running!I had never thought of repairing it myself, the forum is giving me some confidence to try.

there are 2 components to the lcd assembly, the backlight & the lcd itself. sounds like the backlight on yours might be broken.

I just heard back from Canon Canada, and they suggested sending it to them in Calgary and they will determine the problem at no cost, then I guess I can decide what to do.
Is changing the backlight easier than the LCD screen?

the lcd just "pops" into the backlight, whereas the backlight is attached by 3 or 4 small screws and a two-lead cable that plugs into an electronics board. its a pretty straight forward fix. if you have the covers off the camera, it can be done in several minutes.

Thanks for your help, I will see what happens and maybe get the courage to try and fix it myself if its too expensive for them to do it.
My G6 arrived today, still, I want the S45 for those backcountry trips!
