not sure if it really matters to you or not, but I bought a cheap knockoff from ebay and it works fine and has a good fit.

I heard the knock off's were longer is that true?

can't compare as i don't have canon version. all i know is mine seems to work fine on Rebel XT. I think I got for $6-10 shipped.
