Just messing with my new Canon A85 and one shot of a building has a very noticeable purple finge when you zoom into it. I seem to recall hearing about this happening with some shots due to chromatic aberration at wide apertures but can I edit the fringe out using Photoshop 7 and if so how.

Are you shooting raw or jpeg?

You can find a method to remove purple fringing in Photoshop here: http://epaperpress.com/psphoto/index.html
Choose "Preparation" in the menu on the left, and "Purple Fringe" in the menu that appears below it.
Steven, the A-series PowerShot cameras do not have RAW mode.

Are you shooting raw or jpeg? The A85 is not capable of shooting RAW images.
Here is the link to a free plug-in for Photoshop specifically for purple-fringing:

I'm not familiar with the A85, so thought I'd ask--because Adobe Camera Raw has nice de-fringing capabilities.
Thanks for the link though--I sometimes shoot jpg (and have lots of old jpgs) and it's nice to know you can address the issue in PS. PaintShop Pro has a very nice de-fringe function. It has been the one reason I've kept PSP on my computer after getting PS CS. Guess I can get rid of it now!

I tried this last night but when I dropped it into PS 7 I keep getting an error message not recognised by windows (or similar) and it doesn't appear in my drop down menu of Plug-Ins. Any ideas?

- Go to the bottom of the page at http://www.sd3.info/pf828/PFree/PFree0-1.html
- Right-click the link "PFree 0.2"
- Choose "Save Target As" from the popup menu
- Internet Explorer will ask you where to save the file (with the extension ".8bf"); navigate to your Photoshop plug-ins folder (usually "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop\PlugIns\Filters")
- (Re)start Photoshop
What is exactly the error message that you're getting? Maybe the file got corrupt while downloading it. Try downloading it again...

I'm planning on loading PS 7 onto my new laptop at work today. I'll try loading the plug-in later today and see what happens.
It worked fine on my old computer when I loaded it 3-4 months ago...

Just tried it. It worked fine for me.
It shows up as the last filter in the Filters pull-down list under "FiddaFilters".
Are you sure you pasted the file in the correct folder?
C:\Program files\adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Plug-Ins\Filters
