I took this shot of a friend's Bengal cat with my G1 using only strong existing light. I got right down on the floor with the G1 and soon as I started to hit the shutter Asia woke up startled by my presence.

Those eyes are pretty scary the way they are glowing.

Yeah, she's got wild eyes. I love the view down so low.
Got any full-body pics of her? She looks like a cool-looking cat.

Wow, that's a pretty little cat. Looks like a miniature tiger. :) I'd like to have one just like that (like a tiger).

I'd like to see more shots of this cat, too. I'd never heard of that breed. I want one now! Those eyes are amazing.

It's a cross between the Asian leopard (a real wild cat) and a domestic cat (although they're a couple of generation away from the Asian leopard). That explains the "leopardy" markings on the Bengal cats. Yeah, I never heard of this breed, too, until today so I did some research (AKA "googling" :D ) on it. :)

Thanks for the info. I hadn't tried Googling on it yet. I was afraid I'd get too many hits about tigers... :D
I have a 19-year-old Siamese who won't be around much longer. If these Bengal cats aren't too expensive, I just might end up with one before long. I really want one!

Yep, I want one.
Or, to be more specific, I'd like to be lucky enough to find one that would allow me to live with her and take care of her.
Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
Dog: These humans love me, feed me, take care of me - they must be gods!

It's amazing how you get attached to pets. Right now I'm waiting for biopsy results for lymphoma in my 4 year old Golden Reteriver.

Hey, in this picture, doesn't Asia have a striking resemblance to a face we all know so well, such as this little feller? ==>

Well, my Siamese passed away this morning, so I started shopping around for these Bengals. I found a breeder in Northern California, but the cats cost $750-850. That's a bit more than I want to spend on a cat. Doesn't look like I'll be getting one any time soon... :(

Lonnie.
Sorry to hear about your cat. I seem to recall you saying he/she had been sick for a while. I hope he/she went peacefully.

Thanks. She had been in increasingly frail health for a couple years now, but I guess that's to be expected in a cat of that age. Except for old age, she didn't have anything obviously wrong with her. It looks like she died in her sleep. I found her at the foot of my bed this morning when I got up.

sorry to hear that Lonnie. you know, the smartest cat i had was a grey tabby. found it as a kitten. he could even fetch, so i called him spot.
my condolences,

Sorry to hear about your Siamese, Lonnie.
Re the Bengal, maybe you can trade in one of your L lenses for it. Maybe one that you hardly use?

One of my other cats is a black/grey tabby. He's loaded with personality and is quite the practical joker (seriously). He's also enormous -- he weighs about 25 or 30 pounds. More than my dog! Sometimes I wonder if he's part bobcat.

Hmm... Well, the only L I think I could part with if I had to is the 70-200 f/4, and that wouldn't get me enough for a Bengal... I wonder if the breeder is willing to negotiate.
By the way, that price I mentioned was for "pet quality" Bengals. The breeder I contacted has three tiers of pricing: Pet, Breeder and Show quality cats. The show quality ones can go for as much as $2,500. These are NOT cheap cats!

Yes, I noticed the pricing tiers, too. I wonder if they're cheaper in Asia where they originated from?
BTW, do you supposed "pet quality" is a euphonism for "breeder rejects"?

They might be cheaper in Asia, but I don't think it would be too cost effective for me to go there and find out...
And I'm sure that's exactly what the term "pet quality" means.
I wonder if we were looking at the same breeder for info. The one I found has a web site here: http://www.hdw-inc.com/ (note: there is annoying music on just about every page.)

i checked out the site. the cats are awesome, but the photos aren't. maybe you could make a deal with them.some appealing photos would surely sell more cats!

thomascanty, go to www.petfinder.com
on the left, under animal , select "cat"
then under it says breed "click for link"
then click cat, then hit bengal.
Type in your zip or city/state and that will bring up all the bengals in your area that need a new home!

Hey, now there's an idea! Maybe we could work some kind of deal out. :)
Thanks for that URL Jemmind. That site looks promising. I found a little Bengal/Tabby mix that I'm interested in. I sent email asking about it. We'll see what they say. I'm not too hopeful, though. Looking through some of the listings, I found quite a few that were way out of date (like "born on 3/22, available for adoption in June"). That doesn't give me much confidence that their database is all too current. The one I was interested in didn't mention any dates, so I don't know if it's another old one or something more recent. I'll just have to wait until I hear back from them.

I just got Adobe 6.0. Actually I've had it for awhile. I just bought 6.0 for dummies I should have got the for complete imbeciles version. It's not exactly intuitive software. Anyways, I was able to figure out how to resize the jpeg with it and keep it under 100k still. So, here is a larger version of the same image. I also just got a Pro1. I can't wait to visit my buddy again so I can take more shots of Asia with the Pro1. This one was taken with my trusty G1. BTW his wife said she paid $800.00 for her almost 10 years ago.
