Newfoundlands "Avalon" Peninsula is known for it's foggy climate...
It tends to make for a very scenic atmosphere,...
These were taken in a town also called "Avalon"

All of them are very nice shots. :) I find the pier (if that's what it is) in #1 too "busy" and a bit distracting from the serenity of the scene. Fog can have a calming effect (as long as you aren't trying to drive, fly or navigate a boat  ).

You know.. the first one is really bugging me now.. I swore I at least cropped out the railing.. but there it is?
I'd just delete it at this point from the post,. but since it's there,. I'll leave it...
I'll have to check when I get home.. I may have made the jpeg from the wrog version of the image...

Newfoundland has been on my "to go" list for awhile. If you get a minute, will you describe your trip a little. Where do you fly to, how did you get around, how long did you stay, what time of year, are there lots of other tourists?, etc.
It sounds like a cool place to visit to me. A woman (Jill Fredston) who rowed the coastline with her husband gave it a rave reviews in her book "Rowing To Latitude" .

"The Mists of Avalon".............What a great title.
For me, the top half of your first shot in a pano format conjures up that vision exactly.
I like it........(the top half that is).

i was once walking in the mountains.. it was a sunny day, after a rainy morning... there were beautiful clouds of mist in the hills, unfortunatelly, i didnt have my camera (or a camera at all) with me back then.. would turn out nice shots.
very beautiful, nice work.

Mega,
Rowed the coastline?
I'd say "wow" but they were clearly nuts!
One of the recurring themes of existance in Newfoundland I found to be something along the lines of;
"you can build what you want here, attempt whatever human aspirations you may,.. but it will all remain insignificant in the face of this .... This is beauty,. but it is unforgiving,. and hard as it gets, and it will remain here long after anything tht you try to accomplish"
The coastline of Newfoundland is about the most stunning coast in North America.. but it is it's ruggedness that makes it so...
Having spent much of my life on the Ocean in small craft,. the Idea of leaving the shelter of Newfoundlands deep bays would scare the living crap out of me! There is no time of year when the water will not kill you in minutes if you end up in the drink.
I went last July/August,. I was there for 8 days. I flew from Providence to Toronto, to St. Johns.
I'm still working on a complete gallery of the trip.. but this is it so far,. each subgallery in chronological order;
http://newfoundland.fotopic.net/
From St. John's I went North to Bona Vista bay, Trinity bay, Charleston, and little place called "Tickle Cove"
The Puffins nest out on Cape Bona Vista where there is a beautifull lighthouse as well. (yes,. I'm an idiot and took no images of the lighthouse) I would recoemend this part of the world to anyone.
Heading back South towards St. Johns is "Dildo" ;) Another bay with the possibility to get a tour of "Dildo Island" .... this is where the Capelin photos in the gallery were taken.
From there we made it to Cape St. Mary's that very evening.. well in time to catch the most fiery sunset of my life as the fog cleared...
Then On to Avalon... then Back to St. Johns and home.

lol,. I see your point,. I think I'll try that..
...actually I have more appropriate images to go along with that title,. I just haven't gotten them "dealt with" yet.. I have been focusing on the bird shots,. as I am apt to do.

Actually to me they were not quite what I was expecting...
The title The Mists of Avalon is also a title to a book by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and it's a retelling of the King Author tale, so to see the modern things was not quite fitting to me....
The first one without the pier would be better, and I like the one of the church, although that line in the water could be cloned out perhaps. (And if I were going for an olden times look I'd get rid of the parking lot)
Or change the title of your photos to reflect that it's the modern era.
Then again, maybe no one else knows about that book but me so it wouldn't be an issue :)

I cannot tell you how many times I wish I lived near the east coast. It is almost impossible to get scenes like that out here. Far Northern California and Oregon are about the best opportunities, and that's a long way from the desert.
Lovely shots, CDS. I do believe you're getting the hang of this picture-taking business.

Well aware of the Book Julie,. and am a bit of an Arthurian scholar in my own right...
Sorry if my Homage was not to your liking,... the gallery is a "work in progress" ...
Does the image above with the sign begin to explain my lame attempt at humor with the title?
