I'm still working on my street photography. I'm trying to force myself to spend less time on architecture and more time on people. I left my 17-55 behind this time and just attached the 50 f/1.8 to my 40D. Found myself wanting just a little more width and a little more reach a few times, but it was a fun experience.

What are your thoughts of the images? Comment and critique is very welcome!

i like #7, but it needs to be cropped a lot closer to the mom/kid. the tree nor the view thru the water & tree helps any. crop out most of the upper part, such that you cant even see the fence etc. hopefully you can recover some detail in the mom's shirt. the rest seem like you are a bit nervous or furtive, and not focusing, panning properly. I am sure I would not have the nerve to attempt this so maybe I am channeling my own anxiety! --alex.

Good series.

It looks as though the dog in number 1 has a human right arm.

I agree with the cropping comment. Even cropping to just below the top of the fountain makes it a much stronger image.

#1 is the best here IMO, love the subjects faces/interest.

A good set. The first is the most immediately appealing, but I like the strong blacks in the last one. The guy loading the truck onto the flatbed looks like he's taking a leak on the truck!

Well done. A good example of how you don't need to live in a huge city to capture life on the streets. I like the kid and his dad in the fountain best but the dog in the window is good, too.

This is a good approach. Please see this thread about using one focal length to unify your sets: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=542148

If anything, go wider and get closer!

Did you intentionally add the film grain or shoot at a higher ISO? Either way, it works well with the image. Well done!

#1 didn't like you much, huh. I love these kind of shots, but I am always afraid of peoples reactions, especially when kids are involved. Nice shots.

I'm on the South East side of town by Harrison and 20th. I love shooting in downtown Chicago! I really need to do some street photography of people down there. I typically just shoot the buildings. I tend to drool over skyscrapers.

Thanks! I like the grain too. It's a combination of shooting at ISO 400 and cropping in close.

I shot all the pictures with my 50mm so on my 40D that's about 80mm. From the sidewalk, that put alot of elements in the pic I didn't want, so I cropped in. The grain was bonus.

I actually got a couple shots in prior to this one without her looking, but the dog kept looking the wrong way. This was the last shot. I got lucky. The dog and the lady both turned my way. Right after I clicked the shutter, the light turned green and she drove off. I wonder if she would have said something had the light stayed red...
