Hello everyone ,im new here so be gentle with me:oops:
I have saved up my pennies for my new Canon Camera, and now have to decide on a good starter lens. I am replacing my Fuji:shock: s602 so i am looking for a lens with the same range as the Fuji has.
I can spend around £300 max on a lens at the present time ,and will push the boat out in a few months time.
My main interest is for landscape photography.
Thanks then......Simon

A big welcome,

I would add a little and get 17-40mm f/4 L USM, it's a worth every dollar or in your case pounds. BTW, what is current rate for the pound to dollar? Congtrats on your future purchase of great camera, you will ejoy it immensely, I am sure. Your at the best place on the net, lot of pro's and amateurs alike will help you here, good luck.

I would go with the Tamron 28-75 2.8 to get you started and maybe the 50 1.8

I think (read: I stole the info from someone else's site) that the FinePix has a coverage equivalent to a 35-210 on a 35 mm camera. The closest you'll find to this is probably the Canon 28-135 IS, which a number of people around here recommend as a "walk-around" lens. Allowing for the notorious "cra^hop factor" (no comments, please!), that's about a 45-216 equivalent when used on a 20D. ISTR that it's covered by the current rebate program, as well, so with a 20D and this lens, the rebate on this will be doubled (if the UK rebate program works like the US one does).

I just went with the 18-55 (EUR 100) and the Tamron 28-75/2.8 XR DI (EUR 300).

The 18-55 is mainly for landscapes, but so far I've almost exclusively used the Tamron because it is an incredible lens.

Best regards,
Andy

Why not consider the kit with the EF-S 17-85mm IS lens? That gives you the equivalent of 27-136mm with image stabalisation. It's the equivalent of the 28-135mm IS suggested by others but taking into account the 1.6x crop factor. 7dayshop.com is selling this kit for £1349 incl. of UK taxes. It's within your budget.
