100mm macro, doing it's thing. Never seen the red guy/gal before. Was a change, from the blue ones...though, they do frequently visit. No complaints from me, either way. And maybe it's not 'quite' a portait...but, this is as close the macro can get. Any closer, i'd be needing an extension tube.

The seem to love the orange bulbine shoots and flowers. Curious question...what backgrounds are better? Lighter, or Darker? To me, it's like Mounds and Almond joy. Both have coconut, but, different chocolate, and one has a nut, the other, "don't."

No other comments? Just the forum moving at a faced pace? Or are they just not all that good? If not that good...please provide some criticism. I'm a big boy (figuratively, not literally ).

haha. i think they are great. i dont recall seeing any red ones before.
i think darker and lighter BGs can work for most subjects, i dont really have a favorite.

Thanks John. Just unsure as to which make for a 'better' picture? I guess it depends on the situation. These were taken around 8:45 p.m., so, the flash was the only real source of light...thus, the dark bg.

We ought to meet up one of these days...maybe half way, for a sunrise, or something. Too hot during mid-day! haha.

thanks Dalantech. It's the first time I've seen one period. Never even saw these things in NY...now, I've got different colored ones, in the yard here in FL.

Thanks Bill...It's the first time I've seen a red one. Any idea how to tell if they are male vs. female? I know the blue ones tend to make with 'golden' ones...no idea about the little red guys, though.

 yeah..though, I 'try' beforehand, to find the ID...and when I can't find it, I always ask. This whole 'work' thing consumes too much of my time.
