I have a 12x20 portrait studio and I was curious what others thought would be better for lenses. A) a 24-70 2.8L
B) 35/2, 50/1.8, 85/1.8 the latter is a tad long, hence the zoom option. C) 17-40 4.0L, 50/1.8 the former is a tad bit slow, hence the other two options.
thanks for the imput.

I wouldn't go with the zoom just for the reason that primes are better if you are working in a known distance to subject situation. Zooms let you frame without having to move but since you are in a studio you don't need to worry about this. Primes, just because there is no need to move the focal lenght, take better pictures.

You didn't mention you price range but I have read good things about both 35mm 1.4 L and 50mm 1.4 lens and these both would work in your studio.

Thanks Steven. I sort of felt the same way about the zoom deal, but I would really like to have something a bit longer than the fifty, for head shots, without getting in peoples face to much. I'm afraid the 85 might be too long for my twenty foot studio, so that and the faster aperature of the zoom over my 17- 40 zoom was why I was considering it.
