I hadn't ever seen one before either, the plane iteslf looks much smaller than I expected, and that wingspan is huge!! That wingspan made composing pictures difficult, pretty much any angle that fits the wings all in the shot were keepers.
There's no landing gear under the wings until they install it after landing, so they drove a Ford Mustang convertible at 120+ mph alongside it while it was landing, to keep it from tipping and dragging a wing until they installed the wing gear.

That's fun to do (Chasing the plane down the runway). They chase the plane to talk the pilot down. The nose is so long that they can't see the runway once they get close to it.

Ahh, that's how that works! Once the landing started, everyone stood up in front of me and another taxiing plane parked in the way, and I never saw what happened from when the car went onto the runway, until it was parked. I just heard other people standing around talk about it.

Not trying to steal the thunder of your thread, because these are great photos, but here is a photo that I took from a Camaro that was behind the Camaro that was talking down the U-2.

Great shot! Very cool! I wish I would've been able to see what was happening...we were just passed "show center", we saw it coming down and the Mustang and a pickup truck go out, then our view was blocked and the next time we saw it, it was stopped and everything was over.

Cool pics. I haven't seen the U-2 in years and didn't realize any were still flying.
