Not a planned comparo. Just a cent from here and another from there ;)

The 20D's image was shot with the EF100mm Macro+Kenko x-tubes, while the 1Ds2 image was with the 17-40mm L also with the three Kenkos.

Here's the 1Ds2 (http://home.comcast.net/~eldoronki/1DsCentw1740mm.jpg) and the 20D (http://home.comcast.net/~eldoronki/20DCentw100mm.jpg) images. Sorry for the links, but I left both pictures absolutely untouched..

Please don't take offense, but I don't think that's an overly useful comparison. Different cameras, different lenses, different settings (1Ds 25 sec@F22, 20D 1 sec@F32), and different parts of the picture focused on. There's too many variables to be able to draw any conclusions at all. Also, parts of the coin looks slightly out of focus, maybe because of a narrow DOF.

Perhaps it would be more useful if you took photos of the same things with the different cameras on a tripod, with one lens and one setting, or the same camera with different lenses?

You did say it wasn't a planned comparison though, so thanks for sharing :)

At first I thought the color was just way off on the 20D, and then I noticed they were different coins.

It seems the only common thing we are comparing here is that they are both Canon cameras.

mcouper, thanks for sharing your 2 cents, but......

Truth is, I'm really bored. I really didn't have a "scientific" reason to post these pics. Two casual shots, with little in mind as to what to do with them I guess!
However, the fine detail of the 1Ds is obviously impressive.
The one thing I'm not too crazy about so far is the noise levels from the 1Ds. But it's still too early for me to label it as a noisy sensor.

Especially when you consider that the 20D had the "better lens for the job" .. the detail is indeed impressive.

A poor comparsion. The 20D pic is out of focus! Maybe remove this post.

I can now say I have seen a full resolution picture off a 1Ds II. Absolutely AMAZING!
