Both shot with my Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5. Untouched, just cropped/resized and compressed to jpg.

Shot from top of staircase of Robart's Library (University of Toronto St. George Campus). Shutter Speed:1/125 Aperature: f/4.5 ISO100

Shot from bottom of the very same staircase. A little blurry, she got a little close so I had to snap it quick.
Shutter Speed: 1/80 Aperature: f/4.5 ISO100

Very very dull day. I heard overcast was best to shoot in, but I'd rather have a sunny day lol. Seems like the weather was getting to everyone.

Nice candids !
You really should use some sharpening - it'll do miracles for pictures like that.

Thanks Olegis! Wow, it's amazing how much a little USM, and playing with levels/curves does... :D

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about ! I was a "purist" once, telling everyone that no post-processing was done on any of my images - until I realized how much I lost due to lack of it. Since then I do post-processing on every one of my images and get very nice results every time !

I love candid shots like these, you catch people in their natural state. Quick question KevC...how far(physically) were you from these people? I'm just wondering because I'm looking into purchasing a zoom lense soon. Also were these handheld shots? I noticed you used the 35-105mm but that doesn't have IS right? Again, great pics...

And if the photos were of guys? Then what kind of photography will that be?

Candid, you of all people should know, there's nothing wrong with homosexuality!

Ok ok I joke I joke. I'm sure Ogrt48 was joking too. ExPOSED: I was pretty far away from them. All my shots were RAW, the first shot I was shooting at 105mm and even then, I didn't have to resize, only crop. The second shot was much closer.

First shot I was about 70m from them. Second was more like 20m.

The next lens on my list is definitely a 70-200mm f/4L telephoto :D Maybe you should get that one too?

Nah, not even close...but I'm going to assume your just joking. The reason I asked is that I'm still a newbie in the dSLR world, and so I'm trying to get an idea on how much of a zoom I would need to take certain shots. Since these were candid shots, I would assume that he could not have been that close otherwise they would have noticed. So I was just wondering if he took the photo from a far distance and then blew it up. I plan on taking photos of drag races and basketball games. Thing is, I dont have any connections to get close enough to use a short zoom.

Yeah he should be just joking. Candids automatically = stalking lol! Funny, I asked my friends for friends to model, she was scared away. Oh well.

Anyway, the lens I used is discontinued. I don't know if anyone has even heard of it, it's ancient (15yo at least). But yeah, definitely check out the 70-200mm f/4L if you want a nice telephoto.

USM in post process? I am slow in learning all the terminology. I only know USM in lenses.

UnSharp Mask in Photoshop. USM. It's the best way to sharpen many images.
