Well had to visit a customer in the CBD late this morning, so I thought I would take advantage of the fact that their are a couple of well stocked shops within 10 meter of each other in Queen Street.

Well I need a new bag (a small one, just enough to protect my camera with a good lens on it), so I took my camera into both stores to try bags on for size.

Snobbed at both stores, they were more interested in selling Kodak Gold and passport photos and tire kickers than spending any time on a guy with a couple of grand worth of gear, obviously serious about buying something.

If I found a decent bag, I would have bought it, no issues there, well I found a reasonable bag, but I couldn't find anyone to take my money in either shop, so they both loose. This is not the first time I have received service like that in those shops, not going back.

On a other note, I listened in on a sales pitch to a guy who wanted 'a digital camera that I can change the lens on', well out came the D70 straight away, the customer asked 'what about the Canon', the sales person then replied not to bother as it was cheap and plasticy, and the D70 had a longer '28-105' (yes that is actually what he said)zoom.

I got my A80 from a shop in the Queens Arcade on lower Queen St, very helpful, and had a good selection of bags.

There is a camera store towards the top, on the corner of Mayrol drive, its mostly second hand stuff, and I won't ever go back. I went in there one day looking for a used or new ND filter, the guy was almost enthusiastic untill I mentioned it was for a digital camera. Suddenly they didn't have any in stock.

The best place I have found is Auckland Photography on New North Road right around Morningside. I eventualy found my ND filter there, and they have a HUGE selection of stuff.

Canon seem to have almost avoided promoting the 300D here in NZ, I was looking for prices online last night and not even Harvey Norman Stock it. It easy to get from Parrallel importers, but none of the mainstreem stores are interested. Nikon on the other hand have clearly seen the gap in the market and have pushed the D70 into it. Unforunalty its actualy more expensive than an imported 20D.

Yeah that is Town Hall Photographics, good shop, if you use film and a manual focus camera, used to go in there frequently when I worked close by, hardly ever has an EOS stuff though. I think they are quite old school, and make most of their money from D & P, so they will not like digital!

Yep I second that, that is where I got my 20D from, we are going there on Saturday to check out bags!

What have you seen the 20D vs D70 prices go for? Auckland Camera Centre (Morningside Drive) had a huge pile of 300D's at least 50 when I was last in there. perhaps they got everyones quota!

Well in the last 24hrs Harvey Norman have taken down thier webiste, and replaced it with some crap about printing photos, I can't remember thier list price for the D70, but it was more than the parrallel imports price for the 20D http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/search.php?make=Canon&mid=2'

Thier D70 and D100 prices are of course a lot cheaper: http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/search.php?make=Nikon&pos=6

I have tried a couple of camera stores in Hamilton and I can say that none are any good. The best that I have found is Auckland Camera Center. Someone that I used to work with went in to a camera store in Hamilton and was after a dslr camera.

He was told that they don't make dslr cameras and ended up buying a film camera.

In one store here in Hamilton I went in asking for a lens hood for my canon 90-300, the first thing they did was go after the 2nd hand ones.

The only place I am going to do my shopping is Auckland Camera Center.
