Very windy by the time I got out. Didn't get any decent shots with the MP-E 65 :(

Plant bug nymph, must have just shed recently. Took this at ISO200, you can see some bg, but it's pretty dark:

Almost the same shot, but changed to ISO400 to get more bg coming through. I liked the colours:

And this fly posed on a flower (of a weed :o) - as LordV said recently, this one has a cute bum - the main body was that orange/brown colour, but the backside was darker/black:

Good set Troy - it was a wee bit windy yesterday. I went out with the camera for the first time in a few weeks, specifically to try and get some natural light shots of a hoverfly, but by the time I got back out it had gone :(

Thanks Dave.

I usually try to get out before the wind picks up as the sun comes up. But yesterday my fiance decided to some with me, which is awesome coz I love shooting together, but by the time she got ready the wind was up too :(

This morning went out alone and did beat the wind for a bit. Wanted to practice some MP-E 65 shooting. Within about 10mins of shooting the wind was with me again.

Nice work Troy,

Yesterday was not the best for macro was it. Today is a little better but there is still a bit of a breeze blowing outside here.

Thanks Greg.

Doesn't take much wind to ruin it. Oh well, there's always next weekend, and the Ekka holiday coming :)

throw the 100mm in your bag and stop using it for a while..only use the mpe-65 now for a few weeks..your soon get use to it..

shooting with the mpe in the wind is pretty easy..probably easier than using a 100mm in the wind,,mainly because you are so close to the subject u can hold the leaf or flower that the bug is on.your not going to get use to it if u keep going back to the 100mm.heres a technique i use..very good for windy days, - http://nocroppingzone.blogspot.com/2008/07/left-hand-brace.html

so whats your thoughts on it?not easy is it:) i dont think any one can really appreciate how hard this lens is to use unless they try it for them selfs.its took me about a year to get to a place where im confident i can shoot any thing at any time and pull of great shots.keep practicing:) and stop using that dam 100mm :D:p

edit - love image 1 by the way.

Thanks mate. You'll be sorry you asked about my first impressions of the MP-E 65 - I just did a mini-review of it in the lens forum. Lot's of reading for ya. Check out the link in my current sig, or click here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=546940).
