sweet, 14MP sound just perfect. Can anyone explain to me what (1.6x) is?

That is the cropping size..
If you use a 85mm prime lens for example.. the actual focal point will be 85mm x 1.6 = 136mm.
Full frame is (1x) by the way.

a jump from 10mp to 14mp??

and how will they manage to keep up the image quality with a 1.6x and 14mp sensor? Even the 40d with 10mp suffers from noise at high iso.

How did they manage to jump from Pentium 1 - Pentium 4 ??? It's called technology advancement. A 1.6 crop camera will not be stuck at 10MP for the rest of my life...

why didn`t canon use that advanced technology in the 40d then? I don`t think the 1.6 crop factor cameras will ever have more resolution than 12-14mp. There must be a optimal resolution for a given size of sensor. If that wasn`t the case, why would hasselblad make medium format digital cameras, instead of fitting more pixels in a ff size sensor with less cost.

Because Canon wants to suck you dry for as long as they can.Then they show you a new feature or two, you get excited and then you find a way to get money to buy the new wave of products.

The main features for the 40D were 6.5 FPS and sensor cleaning and liveview. That's enough for that model this year as per Canon. "You want more? Spend another $1.5k next year", says Canon.

It's like feeding seagulls and pigeons. They only stay until you have food. We are the pigeons. They know your not going anywhere, and if you do you will lose money doing it.

The 50D will definitely be released, the specs are plausible.

For sure it will have the XSI sensor in it. WAIT, OMG that's 12MP, how will they do that???
