Susie Burnett is a director of shows in Edinburgh, having had a successful career in the West End including fourteen months in Les Miserables. She is raising funds for charity work in Africa and as part of that performed a concert with Simon Beck (who apparently conducted the European premiere of Sunset Boulevard).
I was asked to help out as a follow spot operator, but in the moments when my spot wasn't being used I managed to snap off a few shots. I used a Canon 350D with 70-200mm f/4.0L. I find it incredible that some of these shots can be in focus with such a long lens - the balance is just beautiful.
Anyway, there were only two singers and a pianist. No extravegantly-costumed dancers to liven up the photographs. But here are a few that I came up with.
And all best wishes and kudos to Susie.

2. One of Simon's numbers. I enjoy images like this where you see the spot and the shadow as well as the performer

3. The guy is the lighting director, the girl was the other follow spot operator. 1/4s, 70mm with 1.6x crop and no image stabilisation! I'm proud of that!
