Well almost my first. Unfortunately I was shooting in S-norm because the only CF card I had handy was 8mb (stop laughing). I've corrected that problem already.

My first SLR was a Canon A1 I bought new in 1978 (still got it too). It was as revolutionary in 78 and the 20D is today.

btw: I can't say enough nice things about the shop where I bought it "Imaging Spectrum" (http://www.imagingspectrum.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/index.shtml?L+scstore+vyyc9054ff964196+1109275361)

Congrats on the new cam! I never used film cameras before I got into photography (the constant cost of getting film developed turned me away). My first SLR was the 20D and I love this thing... I wanted the 10D forever and just as I had the money to get it, they announced the 20D.... so I waited and saved some more and got it instead.

Speaking of your A1, though, I remember a few days after I got it (it had only been available for like a week and a half I think) I was walking with a friend taking some pictures (he had a Rebel) and we decided to get some lunch, so I threw it over my shoulder as we walked into a place. I noticed a woman looking at me, but I shrugged it off some. As we went to sit down (beside her, incidentally) she commented that she loved my camera and asked if it was the new DSLR from Canon. I happily replied yes, as we engaged in conversation- come to find out she was a pro shooter around the city and still shoots on her A1 she's had for years and years... but she said the 20D has made her consider going digital :)

long and round about story, but the A1 brought up that story in my head and figured I'd share

Got my 20D, and guess what, the subject of my first picture was our dog and not my dear wife...

Since I haven't had any time to devote to photography, I ended up buying a lower end Nikon digital just to get my foot in the door. I'm now ready to go back to an SLR and will be getting a 20d in the near future (ok, my wife says I have to wait until my birthday in the summer). Can't wait!! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy yours!

About a dozen of so. It wouldn't take a single image in Large-jpg. mode. I put the 8mb card in my card case "just in case", but I can't figure out "in case of what"?? :p

In case of someone else runs out of cards, so you can lend them that rather than one of your big ones.
