Flying and equipment

I will be going on my honeymoon next June and flying from Louisiana to Colorado. Seeing another thread about what equipment he should bring, he said something about airport security. Now I don't have alot of gear, but I have enough to fill up my Canon backpack. I have my XTi, 18-55, 70-300, SD450 P&S, HF-10 camcorder, and batteries/chargers. I would like to use this as my carry on as most would I would think. Would I have to take any special precautions for it? I may even have another lens by then and maybe a flash.

Just trying to stay ahead of the game since I probably wouldn't want to be freaking out over it come next May :)

None of that will be a problem. I flew in/out of Denver last week. I think the only thing you have to do is tape the ends of your batteries so they don't short.

I fly all the time with a backpack full of equipment, and have never had any problems. Just make use you don't have any bottles of lens cleaner in your bags. Other than that, no problems that I've ever had on over 100 flights.

I have been in and out of Denver, LAX, Miami with my gear and never had a problem with my gear as carry on.

The only thing I can suggest is be careful around security...not of security though, but of other people!

You mentioned you're going on a honeymoon, which means you have two people flying together (...I hope ;)). Send the first person though security, then send your camera bag into the x-ray machine while they're walking through the metal detector. They can grab your bag while you go through the metal detector, and no worries about someone else walking away with it.

Realistically, not a problem, security is usually good about matching people back up to their bags, but if you have a Canon backpack, which screams, "EXPENSIVE STUFF HERE!" then it's not a bad idea to be slightly more cautious.

It shouldn't be a problem unless the bag your are carrying your gear in doesn't meet carryon guidelines..

You don't need to tape your carry on batteries and avoid checking any batteries. Your camcorder (if it has a tape) needs to come out as does your laptop and be placed in bins to be x-rayed outside your bag.

I fly excessively, always with a loaded bag of gear (occupational hazzard) and have no problems with the TSA and my equipment (other than secondary searches and ill informed TSA agents)
