Hello everyone,
I am looking for a zoom lense. There is a lot of choices out there. I dont know which one to get. I dont really have to go to 300 so if there is a good lens that is within the 200 range I would like to know about it. Can anyone suggest make/model? I have the Digital Rebel.
thanks in advance.

All the 75-300 lenses are similar optically. The 75-300/IS has image stabilization and therefore is more expensive ($425).
The 70-200/4L at $570 is an awesome lens.

thank you. they seem great lenses but are out of my budget / size. Any other mainstream good lenses? 70-200 or 75-300? whether sigma, tamron,canon.. etc? any suggestions?

You might check out the Tokina 24-200 ATX. Nice range, glass is rate quite good (much better that the sig or Tam 70-200 and the price new is about $ 299 les any rebates at B&H.
I have been watching several on E-bay and "mint" used units are going any where from $ 132 to $ 232. Just one thing -- lets not bid against each other !!

The Tokina 24-200 is a great mid range walk around lens. Highly recommended if its in the price range your looking at.

If you don't mind used then about the best possible find would be a Canon 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 USM. It has decent optics (better than the 75-300s but not up to a 70-200L) as well as Ring-USM, FTM, etc. There is a 70-210 f/4 that is pretty crappy and should be avoided.
Or the 100-300 f/5.6L is another gem. Top notch optics but slow autofocus and a bit clunky to use. There is a non L version that should be avoided.
