Hi Everyone,
So we paid a short visit to J&R today and picked up our final lens for this year which was 24-105 f/4, and I asked for when 5D II will be available for sale. With a great smile the sales person said that it would be available by end of September for a cool 3.000$
May be a rumor or?

When the 5D update is announced, will all the current 5D owners be camped
out in front of B&H and other photo houses to be the first in line to buy the
new model? This is what the gamers do when a new Playstation or other
game is ready for sale at 9AM eastern time zone.
Will the New York media be onhand to interview prospective buyers?

Big difference between $3K for new 5D and $60 for new "Mario Kart" (or whatever is hot nowadays).
Also, my wife would never let me go to NY to camp outside B&H

Why camp when you can order online?
Plus I generally wait a "generation" of shipping before buying on most stuff.
Being "first" can sometimes be the worst.

Yesterday I was able to fondle the "Holy Grail" of photography.
The long awaited and much anticipated Nikon D700.
My friend, an excellent photographer and a hardcore Nikonian,
actually got wood just touching the thing. I took a shot of
him holding the second coming of Nikon and grinning.
PFFHHH, what's the big deal? It's just another Nikon.
I am sure when the 5D update makes it debut, it will
nock the socks off the D3 wannabe.

If they are going to sell the 5D MII for the same price as the Nikon d700, then I suspect that Canon will lose out as I think the d700 will have a better body and features.
But I suspect that Canon doesn't go around letting sales folks know all the details out on a camera two months before introduction.

I suspect that canon will reveal this camera within 30-60 days. Most rational trains of thought leads to this conclusion. That said, how close to an eventual revelation does salesplaces have to get info to be ready for release? The repair shops, official canon ones, have to get info quite early? or what?

I was at Calumet Photo today picking up a used 430EX and asked about a 5D replacement for fun. Salesperson told me that he could tell me September as the is the common thought but honestly he would be lying to me as Canon is not telling them anything. Sounds like a reasonable response to me.

I sure hope this isn't true.... So you think it should be priced lower than the D700, Canon can't make a full featured camera or Nikon offers more bang for the buck?
Just curious why you have this opinion?...

Beacause Nikon = "let us put LOTS of features, weather sealing and niceties in our prosumer fullframe", while canon is : "Let us make our prosumers as minimalistic and cheapo as possible, we are the market leader after all"

interesting...I just don't understand how you become a market leader with that attitude?... go figure

Nikon's lenses can't touch Canon's lenses, in the low light prime arena. Nikons other 'good quality' lenses aren't cheap, either.
They both make each other strive for the next best thing. Just choose, and no one will be the wiser.
I won't be waiting in line...I'll continue to use the current 5D for a while. Wait a year, till Oct. '09 when rebates come out, sell my current one (which currently has less than 8500 clicks after almost 2 years), and be done with it. By that time, the bugs will be ironed out, through software upgrades, etc....and it'll be cheaper.
