Hello everyone, I just registered and wanted to take a quick second to introduce myself. I just recently purchased my first dSLR (Rebel 300D). I've done limited work (about 1 year) with photography prior to this purchase, mostly using my old Canon AE-1 MF.
With the Rebel I got the 18-55mm EF-S lens and I also went out and purchased the Tamron 70-300AF (1:2 Macro) lens and I'm loving it. Just starting to get into some portrait work and expanding on some of the artistic styles I engage. I haven't had the dSLR long enough to take any pictures I'm particularly proud of but I'll be sure to post some once I do.

First of all you'll love it, at least if my experience thus far is any indication. The 18-55mm Lens is pretty nice. It has kind of a cheap feel to it, especially the Manual focus ring, but it focuses incredibly fast and the picture quality is pretty solid. The 28-88mm effective focal length range gives you pretty solid coverage for most general compositions.
The camera is an outstanding value. I love it because in the basic modes it's easy enough for my wife (a photography novice) to use like a P&S. In my hands it is almost always in one of the advanced modes where I have manual control over things like shutter, ISO, Aperture, White Balance, etc. Shutter response on it is terrific, outside focus time there is almost no shutter lag.
The only thing I miss from my 35mm SLR is the PC terminal. I'm not sure why Canon didn't put one on the 300D but that's easy enough to get around when I'm using off-camera flashes.
