does any one know if there uk waps or german wasps?

It is very similar to the common wasp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_wasp) (Vespula vulgaris), but seen head on, its face has three tiny black dots. German wasps also have black dots on their abdomen, while the common wasp's analogous markings are fused with the black rings above them, forming a different pattern

Hiya MJ,

Superb shots sharp as their Sting, looks like German to me in #4 & #2 looks like a Common just looking at the face marking.

Cheers for now

its easy to tell females apart - the Germans have three black dots and never have the anchor pattern. The males can only be told apart by studying the genitalia if you are feeling brave.
I would assume 3 & 6 were German.
