I know this must be simple but how can you find out what your lens size is 52mm or 58mm?

I was wanting to get a good UV filter. I thought the UV filter lens would decrease flare. Am I wrong?

Does it really help to also get a polarized filter? Can anyone show an example of pictures with and without this lens?

I purchased the 52mm adapter as it was the right size for the conversion lenses I wanted to add. Had I bought the 58mm, I couldn't have used the lenses I wanted. I have UV filter on one adapter, a Raynox 6600 pro and a Raynox 1540 pro on others.

The UV filter does provide protection and I do think it reduces glare.

I suggest a search for polarizing filter here as there are several threads discussing them and plenty of example shots to look at. I do have one btw.

The filter size is dependent on the adapter you get; the S5 doesn't acccept filters attached directly to the lens.

A UV filter won't make any noticeable impact on your photos. Those of us who use them do so to protect the lens from flying objects.

Polarizing filters can have a significant impact on your photos in the right conditions; they cut reflection and glare off non-metallic surfaces; this can boost colour saturation markedly. they are sensitive to orientation of hte filter and to the sun's angle, being most effective when aimed at right angles to the sun.

Can I purchase a 58mm adapter for the S5IS? If so, what are the benfits over the 52mm?

You need the LAH-DC20 ring adapter from Canon and that will fit any 58mm filter, also allows for the mounting of the Macro lens, Teleconverter lens and the Wideconverter lens.

IMO a UV filter is good for glare reduction as well as lens protection.

Please follow this link to the Lensmate website. You will find a lot of good information there I think.

What our your thoughts of the Tiffen Lens from Amazon?

Sorry I'm a little slow on the up take on this but what is the difference between the 52mm and the 58mm? Why would I buy one over the other?

Some cameras take 58mm lenses and filters and some take 52mm... Some lenses only come in 58mm and some only come in 52mm...

Depending on the attachment you want to purchase, will determine the adapter you want to purchase... I have both sizes of adapter tubes for my S5, I keep the 52mm on it all the time with a filter. I have a Raynox 6600pro WA lens and that mounts on the 52mm adapter as well... Now some people with the Raynox lens have experienced slight vignetting, I however have not...

Personally I don't think one is better than the other... I chose 52mm to keep on all the time because the filters were cheaper than the 58mm... Just depends on what you want to do with it. Some say to get 58mm so you can use the attachments on a dslr if you upgrade... It's all relative...
