Just got my new Alien Bees. 1 800, 2 400, Softbox and 2 umbrellas. Here a few early results. I know the background is wrinkled, I just threw it up. Keep in mind that I am very new at this but I want to get tips from those that know a thing or two about this.
Taken with Dreb and 50mm 1.8 Bees triggered with 420ex/omnibounce. Main light just to camera right and shoot through umbrella 45 deg to camera left. These are right out of the camera and only re-sized.

#1--My wife played along. A littel hot maybe and needs more light from left??? 1/200 @f22

#2--A more willing suject. Seems pretty good to me, again maybe needs more light from left. 1/200 @f22

#3--Tried for a high key effect with a light behind stool lighting teh backdrop. Washed out the main subject a little though. 1/200 @f11

Did the Bees come in kit form or did you order each piece individually? I'm looking for my first light set-up and the options seem endless and confusing.

You can get a kit (http://www.alienbees.com/packages.html) or buy individually. I got the "Digibee" package and then added a B800 and softbox.

epeace, for right now, I am using my 420EX to trigger the Bees. It works well but I found that if I get too close to the Bees then they will actually fire too fast and I end up with severely underxposed shots. I am working on my home studio and hope to have it done in about two weeks. Then I will look to get an RF sstem or sync cord set up.
