I know this is not the marketplace and I'm not selling just yet, but I do want to test the waters.

I have my 20D for a few months and am very pleased with it. I think it is much better in many ways than my 10D was. I usually trade my equipment in to B&H which usually gives me 50 percent of the original price or the current selling price.

When I got rid of my 10D, I sold it to a friend for $800, which I thought was a good deal for both of us, as B&H would have probably have given me a few hundred less.

I really want the 1DS Mark II. I don't think I'd be happy (happier?) with the 1D Mark II, as besides weather proofing, and other niceties, it seems like too much of a lateral move for way more money.

If I finally do decide to get the 1DS Mark II, how much should I ask (get?) for the 20D and will it be easy to sell?

just the body? maybe 1100? that is what i would think is reasonable, maybe more.

Yes, just the body.

When I first got into digital, I traded in my Nikon F100 for the D100. I was not pleased with the camera's output and eventually traded it along with a 70-200 F2.8 and a 17-35 F2.8, along with what was at that time the top flash.. I got 50 percent of the retail. I traded for the 10D and bought new canon lenses and the 550 flash. I now have the 70-200 F2.8 IS, the 17-40 (wish I got the 16-35), the 100mm 2.8 macro and just got the 28-135 for walk around purposes.

I WANT THE 1DS MARK II, and I usually get what I want.

Wow, you must be single and goodluck selling your Canon 20D. I am sure you will find a buyer right away with good price, if you have Nikon, that would be hard, lol.

Good gah. . . . have you ever SEEN a 1D-II?

Don't even power it up. Just hold it in your hand and look through the viewfinder!

Canon propaganda aside: The 1D-II is a a different beast than a 20D. The 1Ds and 1D types are way closer to each other than to the 20D.

And if you are ready to step up to a $8k 1Ds-II after having the $1500 20D for a few months. . .then the incremental savings you get by selling the 20D are incidental.

No, I'm not single. I'm married 24 years with three kids, one in college and two to go in a couple of years. What I do have is a very supportive wife who always tells me to get what I want and not settle for less. As long as she gets what she wants, that is, which she always does.

I'm more curious than anything here. Other than the additional MP what advantages do you see for your kind of shooting in getting the 1DsMKII over the 1DMKII. I've taken a number of my 1DMKII images to 16X20 and I could go much larger without any problems. The prints rival any top quality film print.

There are advantages to both cameras but for me, doing alot of wildlife and a little car racing, the fps was a significant factor.

Like I said, just curious.

The 1D MK-II is not a lateral move, unless you are purely making judgements on the number of megapixels. It is a totally different camera and is quite a step up from a 20D. The problem with the 1DS MK-II for some people is that it really shows up any problems with all but the very best of lenses. What looked great on your 20D may look terrible with a 1Ds as it can outresolve a lot of lenses and show vignetting with some, which was masked by the 1.6 'crop factor' of the 20D.

Look at your lens collection and give some serious thought to your decision, as it could turn out far more expensive than you realise.
