I have a XTI , will i be able to use this? do i need anything else like a transmitter or a wire?

All you need is a hotshoe adapter for the XTi to plug in the master unit's sync cord. But I would suggest to stay away from the kits like that, because of the low flash outputs and no power adjustments. It's very limiting on what you can do with those.

Thank you very much for your help , i'm very new to photography and i want to experiment taking pics of my baby girl , this kit was $50.00 including shipping , i know it may not be powerful enough or have different settings , but do you think it will be something to play around with and learn some about lighting? i also have a 430 EX .

You can do a lot with the 430EX once you get it off camera. For less than $100, you can get a light stand, umbrella and bracket, then you get a adjustable light source that's independent from the camera, and let you use in creative ways.
