I had my mind pretty much made up on the 20D when I found a sale this morning on the 300D Rebel with the kit lens for $679 after rebate. Is the 20D worth $700 more than the 300D for a casual photographer? I even thought about buying it and then it could be a spare body, I would only have $590 in it after taking the kit lens off to use on the 20D later.

Depends on what you want to shoot . . . If it's fast-action stuff, the 20D has much more going for it. If you do a lot of flash, and are ready to get the 580 as well, the crop-factor adjustment to the flash zoom would be a 20D plus. If I'm reading the Canon rebate program (in the US, don't know where you are) getting the 20D and the DR within the rebate period would get you a $200 rebate on the DR, and that's without picking up a rebated lens. For under $400, that spare body would sound mighty tempting . . .

I think I will just wait and get the 20D. I am sure I will always wish I had if I try to save a little money and buy the Rebel.
Thanks, Mike

they're both awesome cameras. Jon pointed out the differences. I have both, and they both serve their purpose.
