Certainly not the British or World Superbike circus, and probably all the better for that. Croft Circuit in the NE of England played host to the North East Motorcycle Racing Club (NEMCRC) last weekend. The events are always popular, and this was no exception - just about every class had a capacity grid and a list of reserves trying to get a race!

Now for an admission. I find bikes difficult to photograph. They take different lines to the cars I normally photograph, and their braking and acceleration points are also not the same. However, the biggest issue I always seem to have is finding a consistant high contrast area on the bike to plonk my AF point on to, while maintaining front to back sharpness and the composition I want. As a result, I ended up using all sorts of wierd and wonderful focus points over the course of the two day event.

Anyway, enough waffle and on to some pictures....

#1 Some sunshine and a very nice Kawasaki ER6 minitwin at Complex 2

#2 Local man Paul Noble on his 1000cc Aprilia SP

#3 A bunch of old timers racing down into Clervaux at the start of one of the classic races.

#4 Yamaha R6 rider Rob Brown gets right over on his knee slider for through the Complex

#5 Being chased through Hawthorn.

All of the pictures were taken using a 1D mk II and a Sigma 500mm f4.5 EX DG HSM. As usual, any comments or feedback would be most welcome.

For those that are interested, there's a full gallery from Saturday's action on my website :-

I like the last. You can see the deformation in the rear tyre!

Annoyingly good as always my bag-photographing friend. I think my experiment with the polariser proves that the best place for them is in the bag :D

Enjoy your camera-free weekend. I'm looking forward to a dummy run for the Gold Cup ;)

Thanks Darren. Clear visors should be made mandatory for motorcycle racing!
