From and unnamed source:

50D: to set it apart will get...

1. ISO to 12500 but with far less noise
2. In Camera HDR custom function
3. ambient light temperature reading in degrees k (under custom WB menu) liked to spot meter
4. Optional fim simulations (ex: velvia, tmax) (which can be added to through DPP upload)
5. finally wireless flash control by radio
6. digital viewfinder mats and digital visible horizon line (may appear as a "yoke" of sorts activate by af button (thin lcd in front of eyepiecece)
7. Double (with live view overlay)
8. GPS options
9. landscape setting get simulated polarizer algorithm
10. Possibly delayed to 60D.. touch pad area for lcd zooming (at black edges of lcd

Those could restore SOME of my faith in Canon.

HDR in camera...pffft, just give me the option to bracket 7 images.
GPS would be sweet!
High ISO...nice
Simulated polarizer...come on now i know your full of it, its the only filter you cant accurately fake.

Hmmm, still no composition feature and no yogurt dispensing mode?

Just give me improved noise performance and a horizon line and I'll be very happy.

12500? What's wrong with 12800?

Still no 45pt AF? And Canon wonders why the 40D isn't selling well against the D300.

Now Im a noob, but what do you want to use all that focus points for? I only use the centre one on my 450D. Its easier than to focus using that then recompose using the camera than selecting the point you want to use.

Useful for AI servo when you are following a moving object. As long as the focus button is held down it tracks the object.

Regarding only using the centre point focus. The other 8 you have around the view finder are useful for composition when you may want your subject to be the left, right, bottom of the frame. This is known as the rule of thirds. this link explains it better http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/rule-of-thirds/

Try that with f/1.4 ;)

I turn off AI servo and focus on a subject by doing the half depress, then holding the half depress, I move the camera so that the subject is where I want it to be in the frame.

But I can see that when tracking a moving subject with AI servo and you want to use the rule of thirds the extra focus points will be useful. But 58 of the stuff... that's some pretty precise composition for a moving subject.

sorry, dudes. the 40Dn which will probably be released by september will be basically a 40D with 12MP, and possible a couple extra tweaks over the 40D. a real upgrade isn't going to happen this year.

I want more focus points then the D300, my friend recently purchased one and all he can talk about is its 51 focus points = REALLY ANNOYING! If all these options really do come in the new 50D then I will DEFINITELY be getting one!! On board HDR? I'll be happier with bracketing 7-9 images!
