I was thinking about this too..

Why cant a person use a battery back up used for computers, they are small and a lot cheaper than battery packs usually, and they seem safe from what I have read....

I use to use the 6400 then sold them for A set of Bees. Im using the Vagabond II for outdoor location shoots. The Vagabond II should work for your 6400's.

The only power source listed for the Excalibur 6400 on the manufacturer's web site (http://www.bkaphoto.com/detail.asp?section=Flash%20and%20Lighting&cat=Monolights&product=SP6400) is 110-120V AC. That would match the power situation with the Excalibur 3200's I own, which need a wall outlet in order to work. Looks like your best options would be an inverter or a generator.

does no one have an idea about the battery back up? You can get one with 4 outlets that will run a tv, computer and more for over 90 minutes for $100 or less, I think this would work and they are silent and weigh about 14lbs...

I also read some users tried the computer battery back system. While the high capacity ones are super expensive, the small ones just can't handle the current draw from the strobes or don't have enough reserve to provide the 100s pops in a practical way.

I guess it depends on the purpose, if its an all day shoot then maybe not, if your going to go pop off 50-100 shots it should work, I am going to give it a try anyway and see if it works... no immediate plans but will do it soon...

Lots come into play, what lights you have, how high you have them turned up, etc...

But I think it should work fine for my needs anyway...

I wish there was someone that has tried this and knows first hand and what back up they used...
