You've got it all covered, all the good lens are there. For $2000, it can hardly get any better.

You need a marco lens.

Since you have the 50mm and are getting the 85mm.

I'd dump the Tamron 28-75mm and think about getting the 70-200 f2.8L for the indoor sports.
The f4 may be too slow for you in some gyms and such.

And with the 70-200 f2.8 you may be able to forgo the 85mm for the short term too.

I presume that you are using a 1.6 camera and the following is based on that:

I'd be more inclined to get the 50mm f1.4 than the 85 f1.8. You pick up a stop and then it'll be two stops faster than anything else that you own.

If you buy a Canon 70-200 f2.8 (non IS), it'd be about $1100 US from B&H. If you buy the F4 and the Tamron it's going to be $1050 from the same source. For $50 more you will be much better served gettting the 70-200 f2.8L. You are at f2.8 from 70 to 200 (duh, I suppose) with excellent quality and one more shutterspeed. Looking at this set up all you lose is a little speed on the moderate wide angle side of things, and that's the place to where speed isn't all that important. With the 70-200 f2.8 you effectively have a 320mm f2.8! How do you like them apples!

Might be short for shots across the gym, or from the stands.

most people who do indoor gym sports don't have any problems with 85mm on a 1.6 and deither does my 100mm.

hey guys, thats great input you gave me,
that really made me think on what i
should really get, but im tryin to get my
70-200mm f/4 ASAP:cool: and that will be
mainly used for outdoor. for indoor i'l
be using 50mm1.8 and 85mm1.8 ..
and the 17-40mm + 28-75mm will
be my walk around lens , sorry if i
didnt put this beginning *sorryface*:(
anyways, that 70-200mm f/2.8L looks
really nice, but i dont think im going to
be using that kind of lens in a gym yet,
its high school basketball not college haha,
so they'l let me walk around and stuff, lot
of space to move. anyways thanks again
guys, if you have any more suggestions
that would be great

i am thinking about getting that 70-200 mainly for outdoor race events like d1 grand prix or JGTC. i'm sure it will perform well in those types of situations.
