Greetings to all,

I'm still researching portable power sources for photography. Obviously battery powered monolights are available. But what about some sort of portable, sealed battery power source that could power regular (AC) monolights and packs.

Has anyone used, found, bought, or built anything like this?

Thanks,

klynam

Here in Canada we have a chain of auto/home stores that has rechargable DC sourced power units that have AC outlets.

I use this with everything. Chargers, lights, blowers, computer etc.

This link will give some info on the product:

Good luck!

Note: I've use this to run movies on my laptop to keep kids busy while I was busy. Kept them out of the way!

I use a small inverter running off a motobike battery which gives me mains power. I also use the inverter for charging batteries etc in the car.

For astrophotography I use one of those portable battery jump start things that you can get at Sears or Pep Boys. They range from $40-$150, with the more expensive ones having built in AC inverters with AC plugs in addition to the typical cigarette lighter adapters. The best part is, I keep it in my trunk all the time in case my car battery dies as well, but of course that will never happen now that I bought one.

I've been looking at these somewhat new ultra-portable (~1000W) generaters, but they run around $700-1000, so it's pretty low on my list.
