Hello all:

I am just getting into this whole digital camera world (I know it took me long enough). I have never owned a digital camera but keep borrowing them from other people and I think this is getting on their nerves as well as inconvenient for myself. Therefore, I am thinking of taking the plunge and getting a Digital Rebel. Is this a wise choice? With all these rebates and such that Canon has out and a couple of coupons I can use on Dell I could get the camera for about $850 after shipping and tax. Is this a good deal?

I am also wondering which CF card I should get and one of the more important decisions which lenses? I would definetely like to get a close up lens so that I can take really close up shots.

Any help you guys can provide would be great and I thank you for you time in reading this.

No, $850 is not a good deal after rebates. Try bhphotovideo.com or 17photo.com or beachcamera.com

Oops I meant before rebates but after coupons. So it would be $100 off that and more if I buy some lenses or something. So is this still not such a good deal? About $750 for the Rebel w/18-55mm lense?

$750.00 is a pretty good deal although I would still rather buy from B&H. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=297501&is=REG They also have free shipping at this price.

Is there something wrong w/Dell?

Is there something wrong w/Dell?

Nothing wrong with Dell other than they are a computer company and B&H is a camera store with a great reputation for customer support, while Dell is notorious for poor, barely English speaking customer support. So I agree in this case it would be worth buying from B&H for an extra $20.

I have no problem with Dell either, two of my three computers are Dell. The biggest reason I purchase from B&H whenever possible is their ability to ship by the next day, where Dell seems to have a few problems getting things out within 3 or 4 days and sometimes much longer for cameras and acc.
