Shots taken today as I got her home. She's a tiny little baby only 10 days old. Isn't she just so cute. I'm hand feeding her. She's going to be one spoiled baby bird. Thinking about naming her Polly.

For now just got to keep her warm so she can grow up to be a strong baby bird. I'm in love with her already. :-)

she's so sweet and love to see her open that little tiny mouth when it's feeding time. Just Adorable :-) :-)

Cute little birdie, Gail. How long before she gets her full set of feathers? I know some bird fledge in a couple of weeks and others take months.

Hi Giant,
I got it from a friend that raises them. She let me get it to hand feed it off so it will be more gentle than if I waited till older. She usually hand feeds them her self and then sells them but being she's a good friend she let me go head and take it being I have hand feed before.

I love taken care of these little babies. feels like you got a baby all over again doing the bottle thingy ha. getting up all during the night and fixing formula instead of milk it's fun. I can't wait till she's up and about and swinging on her swing. I will keep you posted with lots of photos ha.
I got a new baby "BIRD" now .... :-)

I think she should be fully feathered out in a few more weeks.

Congrats. My wife and I have had a Quaker for the last 8 years. He is a huge part of the family. Lots of fun and thinks he is 3 feet tall!

I just ordered my 20D about an hour ago. When it arrives, I'll post up some pics of my 8 year old, "Meeko".

Thanks to all, they are similar size to African Grey maybe just a tad smaller. She's eating good and all so ..so far so good. She seems to have grow over night just a bit. And Jetpilot, please post some photos I would love to see your Meeko.

I bet he is spoiled rotten and yes they do think they are 3 feet tall lol. That's cute does your bird talk fairly well ? I was told that the quakers are one of the best talkers. And very loving and bond with you really well.

Did you hand feed your baby? how old when you got him? sorry so many ? but just curious to what to look forward too with Polly.

And then some tell me they are screamers and very annoying. So how is your bird does he do all that. I guess it's all in how you raise them and how much attentions you show them. Well Polly will get lots of TLC around here.

:-( I'm so sad :-( got up this morning around 2:am to feed the baby and she was dead. :-( I had gotten really attach to her too. I guess it hard to hand feed one this young. I will get my friend I guess to hand feed one out for me then get it cause I hate to get another and it died too.

My heart goes out to animals and I can't take a chance on getting another and it dieing on me too. Well just thought I would update you all and let you know don't guess I will be posting any pic's of her.

Don't know if I will even get another are not. Just breaks my heart. My hubby said that is too young to take from the mother any way. That they should stay with them till they are old enought to eat on their own. I guess he's right. That was young 10 days old. the others I hand feed were not this young. But I thought I would give it a shot now wish I hadn't. :-(

Hi Gail,

so sorry to hear this...

Keep your sprits up and try again...you can only learn from mistakes though it might be painful...your intention was good and this should keep you going.

Maybe a older pet will help...

My sincere apologies for the loss of your bird. If it helps, thats how I came to own my Quaker. We initially had a lovebird. He lasted 2 days, then we made the mistake of cooking mushrooms in a skillet. The fumes from the mushrooms killed the bird within an hour.

I'll try to answer your questions so you have something to look forward in your next Quaker.

Thanks to all, they are similar size to African Grey maybe just a tad smaller. Probably about 1/2 the size if you consider weight. She's eating good and all so ..so far so good. She seems to have grow over night just a bit. And Jetpilot, please post some photos I would love to see your Meeko. Camera shipped today (25th). Hope to have it by the weekend to post some pics.

I bet he is spoiled rotten and yes they do think they are 3 feet tall lol. That's cute does your bird talk fairly well? Mumbles words. You can understand him if you know what he is trying to say. What he does fantastic is mimic noises. He has about a dozen different noises that he makes very well. One of which is arming a car alarm. He will also say "Goodnight" when he's ready to be covered for the night. I was told that the quakers are one of the best talkers. And very loving and bond with you really well. You will become one of the flock. They will eat what you eat, and crave lots of attention. The bird is very well behaved as long as his wings are trimmed. When he can come and go as he pleases, he can get a little rambunctious and start to cause problems. Just keep the flight feathers trimmed and your bird will be fine.

Did you hand feed your baby? how old when you got him? sorry so many ? but just curious to what to look forward too with Polly. We got Meeko from a pet store that specialized in birds. He had just begun to eat hard food when we brought him home. Not quite sure how old that made him, but he had JUST been weened.

And then some tell me they are screamers and very annoying. So how is your bird does he do all that. He only screams when he wants attention. He is loud, but not shrill like a conure. You will get use to the noise, its really NOT a problem. I guess it's all in how you raise them and how much attentions you show them. Well Polly will get lots of TLC around here.

Hope this will give you some encouragement. They are a riot to have around the house.

Thanks everyone I sure appreciate your condolence. And Jetpilot, thanks for the encouragement you have giving. and sharing your story with me. I did get another bird but it's a cockatiel she didn't have any more Quakers. And I needed something so I got the little Cockatiel it's 4 weeks old and doing great. he's down to 2 feeding a day and eating some seed so I think he will make it.

I have read lots of good things about Quakers and I still want one. I think when I run across one that is weened I will probably be owning a Quaker also along with the Cockatiel. They seem like lots of fun and nice family pet. Thanks for your help. Gail,

Here you go Gail. This is the 3rd picture I've ever taken with an SLR camera. Go easy folks :)

Canon 20D, EFS 18-55mm kit lense, full auto mode. Cropped, autoleveled, and unsharp masked in Photoshop.
