View Full Version : Thoughts on Ilford's Printasia line.

I've been looking into trying the Ilford Classic Perl paper (Specifically for Dye-Based printers like Canon, HP, Lexmark, etc, they got the 'Smooth' line for pigment based like epson). However at a local Compusa the "Printasia by ilford" caught my eye. Apparently it seems to be a hybrid between the Classic and Smooth, since it advertizes all the same features as Classic/Smooth, but to work on both dye-based and pigmentbased printers. I've tried this paper on Canon iP8500, iP5000, and on my own home Canon i860. Needless to say I'm rather impressed with the result, I like the luster/semigloss the perl paper has. And when it says instant-dry on the box it pretty much means it, its not even cold to the touch like most other instant dry paper that feels like theres still humidity under a layer actually feels 100% dry. Colors seem quite rich, tiny bit richer it seems than the Canon Photo Paper Pro, but not too much.
Anyone else have any experience with the Printasia 'Perl' coat paper. I'm thinking bout buying a box of the ilford 'Classic' Perl, to see if the ones strictly for the dye-based printerd does any better ( its part of their Galleria line ).

I found Printasia first just like you and then tried the professional Galerie series after reading the reviews. In my estimation, the Printasia works very well and dare I say, as well as the Galerie papers. I use the 4 x 6 Pearl for general print shots and everyone thinks they are chemical process as there is no branding on the reverse of the paper. I certainly recommend the Printasia paper on my Canon i9900.

I have been using nothing but Ilford's Classic Pearl for awhile now. I added the 8500 printer to my setup a week or so ago and this combination is just outstanding quality. Make sure that you download the right printer profiles from their site. These make the world of difference.

I have been using Printasia in the i9100 and it's great...
I thought I was getting "semi cheap" stuff as it was half off the day I got it at CompUSA...
If only I had known how good it was,. I would have purchased a LOT more. I can't tell the difference between it and the Ilford Classic gloss.

I haven't tried the Printasia as i haven't seen it over here (UK). However, I swear by the Gallerie range, especially the classic pearl and classic gloss on my i9100.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PC World sell it. It is not marketed as an Ilford brand. I have used it in my EPSON R300 and found it as good as, if not better than, EPSON glossy paper.

I have been using the Gallerie Classic Pearl for awhile, but recently tried the Prinatsia Pearl. I really could not see any noticeable difference in the output. I am using a canon i9900 with Canon OEM inks.
The only thing I have not been able to find out yet is if there is any difference in the paper and the resulting longevity.

I use a Canon i9900 printer and Ilford Printasia paper and have been very pleased. A good quality picture at a more reasonable price.

I'm very happy with the Printasia papers and prefer them to Canon. I'm going to try some of the other Ilford papers but may come back to Printasia. Just wish they were more readily available down under ;-)

I checked into this a while ago and noticed on Ilford's site that they claim the "quick-dry" papers are more susceptible to gas fading than the "Classic" line. I think I read it in the product descriptions somewhere.
I do not know if this applies to the Printasia line but it is worth checking into for those that are using it since it is advertised as a quick-dry paper. I use the Classic Pearl and Classsic Gloss with great results on a 9100. Pricing was very favorable to Canon papers when ordered online through B&H.

PCW sell it Ian. If you really want the best paper possible for your 9100, give Tetenal Premium Fine Art Glossy a go (Warehouse Express). Not cheap, but very nice 290gm and the prints are superb. There are profiles available from Tetenal's website. I do A3 prints regularly on this paper and I have never found anything to match it. The 270gm photo glossy is outstanding as well.

I bought a 4X6 pack today at CompUSA, and I am very impressed! Our CompUSA had a very limited selection and I am hoping to find all the sizes I need soon!
