Hi All,

What is the best way to shoot under this type of light? I mean, when I shoot under flurosant/artificial (Speling?) light, and I adjust my WB I get a off-color shots.

What do you think? How do you get your optimal results? I know this may be different depending on the situation and equipment but lets say you only have a camera and no external flash.

Thanks for any tips.

Cheers

What are you adjusting the WB to?

Do you set a custom WB?

Well, I tried setting it to fluorescent, but the colors seemed off. What is tugnsten for?

I am using the built in flash.

No I dont use a custom WB. I am still a newbie, so I did not try that yet.

tungsten is for ordinary incandescent lights - regular light bulbs. With the wrong white balance, you'll be likely to have a heavy yellow cast on your images.
Flourescent light - tubes or otherwise will leave a greenish cast on your images, if you don't balance correctly.
Flash is yet another color of light. If you're mixing flash and artificial light (Tungsten or Flourescent), you can end up with some weird colors. If the flash is the primary light, you will want to set your white balance for flash.
Since you're using different types of light, you may need to experiment.

Do you shoot with your camera in RAW or JPG? If you shoot RAW, you can experiment with the white balance on the computer after the shots are uploaded to your hard drive.

Thanks for the tip, I will experiment and see what happens.

At the moment I am shooting in JPG, when I get better with the camera I will shoot in RAW.

Like you I am a new digital camera user. But the guys at the camera store showed me how to set the Custom White Balance and once you know how to do that it makes getting good colors much easier. It will just take you a couple of minutes to figure it out and it is worth it.

Why you should try custom WB:
