I read somewhere that the Canon SD300 uses the old USB 1.1 technology and was wondering why USB 2 is not supported in that camera. Is this because of the size of the camera and related power issues? I didn't get a clear indicataion of the USB support from the Canon website, it's not clearly specified:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelTechSpecsAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=10599

Are all of these smaller cameras USB 1? Thanks for any comments.

unless i'm missing something, no where in that spec said its using USB1.1 technology, it just says USB. Although I cannot confirm that it does use 2.0, i can tell you that i once downloaded about 250MB worth of data in less than 1 min. I doubt 1.1 can do it that fast. Plus the camera will still work with 1.1 and 2.0 just at different transfer rates. Ideally one should just buy a card reader for best performance

Yep, it's USB 1.1. But copying files across doesn't take much time anyway - it's not instant, but it's far from 'slow'.

Best bet is to get a card reader if you anyway. Then you can enjoy full USB 2.0 speeds, and also upload files to the card.
