Something changed in lightroom 2.0 and now it is saying the temp path is not valid and lightroom can't open. Well how do I open lightroom to fix this problem?

Try holding down Ctrl while starting LR and start a new catalog. It may be that you've moved your catalog.

Thanks it actually isn't that....it has to do with a bug that I ended up reporting to Adobe.
The fix is pretty complex on a PC and actually near impossible on a MAC...there will be a patch at some point to address this

Sorry for not giving the details I was in the middle of something.
If lightroom crashes, it sometimes locks a hidden directory or a protected directory called appdata on a generally C:\users\username\appdata\. If that gets "locked" the program will never start. As well if it is assigned to a temp drive, like a removable card or ramdisk, a priority setting that allows cache to be exclusively written will sometimes make the directory show up as not valid.
For the Mac, the directory structure is different and not really fixable without some low level access to the OS. On the PC you can boot into safe mode delete the offending directory, reboot and reinstall.
Also a pitfall of the PC, some automatic updates lock the temp file and if you try and save your work, it won't work.
