Congrats and lets see a duck or two :lol:
Seriously its great to see Nikon stepping up in such a big way. I love my 5Ds and don't plan on anything new for (body wise) a very long time unless Leica ever gets the M digital straightened out. But it sounds like you made a good choice for you and I'm glad its all working out. Now get there and get us a duck....
Couldn't agree more with the duck comment!

Never gonna happen lads ... test shootin' Duckies always leads to front and back focus issues and y'all know it ;-)
Now there is also a very interesting 'review' and 'settings guide' posted by our over-saturated pal Ken Rockwell here (http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d700/users-guide/index.htm)
Was so useful in fact that I gained a renewed appreciation of the D700 ergonomics though I also see there are a couple of minor, maybe firmware, changes still needed to truly optimise the body. I donated $5 to him for the read ... after filtering his subjective needs was worth it just to save me working through the manual.

...the Nikon ergonomics which I personally have always preferred:...
I understand. Although I have not picked one up in awhile, I recall how nice the Nikon fit and felt when I was comparing it to the 20D, which I ended up getting, Back then it was a sensor decision.

And on top of it all ya really can't be an official POTN photographer and score a new peice of gear and not have ducks:confused::cry:. HMMMM Maybe its because hes now a nikon man :p
I have a couple good friends that have recently picked up D3s and man those camera are both SWEET. Will I sell the 5ds NO but man ya gotta admire a quality camera and they sure are just that. As is the 700 I'm sure. Though I don't know how we'll ever be able to judge here condyk without a duck.:p

I will post some 'proper' wildlife shots in due course ladies ... as in wild ... dangerous ... exotic. And some could well be Duckies. They got some over there too ya know ;-)

this camera has left me in awe...honestly. along with it's capabilities when coupled with Zeiss glass...this really, really hits me hard.
it's a shame i may have to just drop photography after this wedding in september due to the recent death of my significant other.
ambition is gone; and i need economic viability while i am on a "leave of absence" from work...
don't be surprised to see all my gear for sale rather soon...
i only wish it was for a better reason.
truly amazing shots in the museum, condy.
not to take away from the shots radio has dropped too.
p.s.
the national "boxer" is the only thing keeping me going now.
for some reason, part me found that funny while reading all eleven pages of this thread.

thank you radiohead, but don't me stir this thread off-topic.
your shots were great that you posted.
it was also good to hear from a Nikon shooter some opposing thoughts to ken rockwell's slanted projections of the noise-to-sharpness tests administered.

Nice write-up Condyk. My last Canon body being a 5D, I was nodding in agreement with several observations as I read. I'm glad to see the 70-300 VR made it into your lens line-up. A very capable, easy to take along addition.
Guy - nice images.
I note that wedding photographer Susan Stripling has a few D700 travel and wedding shots up on her blog. http://www.susanstriplingblog.com/
